“Are you sure that we are awake? It seems to me that yet we sleep, we dream.”
- Demetrius, A Midsummer Night’s Dream
Dear one,
On Midsummer Night’s Eve, the sun reaches its zenith and the light lingers longer - an ancient turning point revered across the world by cultures who have gathered for centuries to honour its radiance.
This is my offering for this sacred night.
This is SAPRANAH Surya - a Summer Solstice gathering of light, breath, and fire, created in reverence not only for the global celebrations that mark this moment, but rooted most deeply in the wisdom of the ancient yogic texts - a lineage I walk, and one I honour with every breath.
In the yogic tradition, Surya is the Sun God, a symbol of divine masculine radiance - a steady, illuminating force. But light does not exist in isolation. The warmth, vitality, and life that radiates from Surya is Shakti - the divine feminine essence, flowing and alive. This gathering celebrates the sacred union of both - the stillness and the pulse, the form and the fire, the awareness and the breath.
Surya is also the embodiment of the ultimate reality -the Brahman.
In honouring the sun, we are honouring the supreme truth that underlies all life.
We begin with a soulful, integrated vinyasa flow, inspired by the foundation of Surya Namaskar. This is not ritualised repetition, but a living salutation to the sun - an embodied dance of devotion. Pranayama will be gently woven throughout, awakening the currents of prana and guiding us inward and outward, upward and downward - into the full cycle of being.
From this place of opening, we will soften into a more focused pranayama, deepening the breath’s capacity to transform, to align, and to clear space for what is waiting to emerge.
Then, through restorative postures and sacred mudras, we will begin to descend inward -preparing for a Yoga Nidra like no other.
This Yoga Nidra is a solar journey, a quiet immersion into the Manipura Chakra, the seat of your inner sun. You will be guided into its golden fire - to rest, to awaken, and to remember. Here, in the still point, you will be invited to plant your Sankalpa - your deepest inner resolve.
From silence, we will rise again. And as dusk descends, we will gather in circle for a cacao ceremony - a ritual of warmth, of heart, of community. Cacao, long honoured as a sacred plant of awakening, will guide us into connection, story, laughter, reverence - and the sweet space of midsummer wonder.
This night is not a performance.
It is a pilgrimage.
A celebration of the sun above, and the sun within.
Once your place is confirmed, you’ll receive full details on the location and what to bring.
With love and reverence,
